Plans: Studio Shooting Floor
I found Studio 908 to be a smidge small, but easy enough to work in. It was a commercial space about 20' by 50'. There was an office area in front and a dressing room and bathroom in back, so the shooting floor was probably only 30' or 35' long. The ceilings were probably 9' high.
We used 9' paper backgrounds at Studio 908, but there were times that I thought they weren't wide enough. If I could accomodate 12' paper, I would be much happier. Also, the space on one side was rather cramped when large softboxes were in use.
So, I think I would do well with a shooting floor that was 27' or 30' wide and 40' or 50' feet deep. The ceilings should be at least 12' high, and 14' or 16' wouldn't be out of the question.
I want a black ceiling, black walls, and a black floor. A concrete floor with black floor tile would be perfect. They sell black tile with gray flecks, which would be just fine. If I could seal the cracks without getting a gloss layer on the top, that would be perfect. I wonder if you can buy a matte tile seal.
The floor should be heated. They are using flexible tubing embedded in concrete floors now for heating with water.
