Bed
I am going to be replacing my king-size bed with a full-size bed. For now, I am just getting the mattress set. However, I either need to buy or build a head-board, foot-board, and bed frame. If I build one, I have the opportunity to make it a little utilitarian.
Special features would include:
- Handgun Safe – I'm not sure how this will work. The side of the bed is probably the best location for this.
Hmm, I was thinking of having a book nook and a reading light built into the bed, but I think that won't be necessary. With the smaller bed, I will be able to have the bed-side table next to the bed, so I can have a reading lamp and keep my books on the bed-side table.
Finish
Basically, I have two options for the finish. One would be to build a bed to match my existing furniture. If I could find the actual bed for the set, that would be better than making my own. If not, I would need to make the bed out of red oak and try to match the finish. Before I get rid of my old bed, I should photograph a lot of the details so I can recreate it.
The other option would be to make it out of ash and use an ebony finish. I kind of prefer that, but it may be sort of dated. Also, it won't match the rest of my furniture, which means I will eventually need to plan on building a full suite of furniture.
