> Do you know the password to this tech contact?? Do NOT change my MP5 NIC handle. Change the domain to reference a new contact instead. A history lesson: The InterNIC (then one company) did not used to use passwords or any type of authentication. Back then, technical people all behaved like gentlemen, and everyone else on the net was kept ignorant of the NIC. Then the net became a commercial enterprise, and they let all the assholes on. That was when it became necessary to secure domain registration. The NIC began to check the From: address in an email to make sure it matched the administrative or technical contact of a domain. But it wasn't long before the assholes learned how to forge email. So, the NIC began to use DES encrypted passwords (like Unix uses), and this was an optional thing a customer could use to secure their domains. Then one day, someone slapped the NIC on the wrist for using export controlled encryption technology on an International network. The NIC disabled password checking. They operated for a couple of years like that. Recently, they have added a new username + password thing on their web site. This is new. I have never set up a domain or a contact with any username + password. So, to make a long story short, you're asking me if I know the password for my technical contact
