White Wildlife Area
I checked out White Wildlife Area near Troy yesterday. It has a nice little lake and a few smaller ponds. Lots of field. I was checking it out for rabbit, but it could also be good for deer, with restrictions. The place seemed huge, even though it is only 810 acres.
At the time I went (mid-May), there were flies all over, and it was quite annoying. According to Tony, who lives in the area, they only last two or three weeks.
Rabbit
I saw no rabbit scat. I did see one rabbit. There was also a lot of brush, much of which was laid in piles, that would make good hiding places for rabbits.
Deer
I saw tons of deer tracks. However, the MDC site claims only a fair population of deer. There is a lot of field surrounded by forest. The habitat seems ideal for deer.
There are some restrictions for deer hunting. It is a northern county, so the 4 pt. rule applies. However, it is closed during the antlerless portion of the firearms season.
