Logan Conservation Area
I checked out Logan Conservation Area near Troy yesterday. The area is mostly forested, but there is a section with large fields. I was checking it out for rabbit, but it could also be good for deer, with restrictions.
At the time I went (mid-May), there were flies all over, and it was quite annoying. According to Tony, who lives in the area, they only last two or three weeks.
This is also an unmanned shooting range, with concrete and steel benches and target distances of 35 to 60 yards.
Rabbit
I didn't get out and walk around, so I didn't see any signs of rabbit. However, there seemed to be some good locations for rabbit. In particular, among the fields, the roads were lined with brush and brush piles, perhaps to shield the road from the fields.
Deer
The MDC site claims a good population of deer. There is some field surrounded by forest, but the bulk of the area is simply forest.
There are some restrictions for deer hunting. It is a northern county, so the 4 pt. rule applies. However, it is closed during the antlerless portion of the firearms season.
