Arkansas Hunting

I had a good time hunting in Arkansas the last two years, but I won't be able to go this year. Instead, I will need to come up with a solid plan to hunt in Missouri.

Checklist

Season, Limits, License

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

The hunting club is in Deer Zone 12. In this zone, the modern gun deer season is November 13 to December 19. Starting in 2010, the seasonal bag limit is five deer: no more than two legal bucks and no more than five does. In this part of Arkansas, the "three-point rule" applies. A legal buck must have both antlers shorter than two inches or have three or more points on one side of his rack. Button bucks may be taken, but they count against the buck limit. The Nonresident 5-Day All Game Hunting License cost $150 and came with two tags.

These licenses do not entitle hunting of furbearers, which costs an additional $125. Furbearers are: badger, beaver, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, red fox, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, raccoon, river otter, spotted skunk (civet cat), striped skunk and weasel. I didn't really see any of these out there.

Guns

As usual, I will take a deer rifle, a spare deer rifle, a shotgun, and my revolver.

Budget

The hunting license will cost $150. The drive down there and back is about 1000 miles, so my fuel budget is whatever 65 gallons of gas costs. The hunting club charges $35 per day to hunt.

Route

The best route is via US-67 to Little Rock. It is only 461 miles, and takes about eight hours.
