CCW

The State of Missouri now allows residents to apply for and be issued an endorsement permitting the carrying of concealed weapons. This page regards the Missouri CCW law and is a guide to acquiring the permit.

Missouri's Conceal Carry Law

RSMO Chapter 571 - This is complete text of the Missouri Revised Statutes regarding weapons, which includes the provisions of the CCW bill. This is an excellent reference for those with questions regarding CCW and its restrictions.

Requirements and Application Process

The permit comes in the form of an endorsement on your Missouri driver's license or "non-driver's license" (state ID). The DMV has managed to make this far more complicated than it should be, and the path of least resistance seems to be a non-driver's license with the endorsement. I've tried twice to get the endorsement on my driver's license (once when I got the permit and once when I got my driver's license renewed), and both times there were reasons why they couldn't. In addition, the CCW endorsement expires sooner than the license, which means you must renew your license more frequently.

The law is new enough that no one has yet had to renew their CCW. So, I can't really say how it will work. The worst case could be that you have to take the class again and get recertified every three years.

Permit Process

My brother and I have applied to take the training at SAFTI. We are scheduled for an August 20 class date. They are associated with the GCLA. For $125, they provide both NRA safety training and lethal force issues presented by an attorney. It is conducted at that new indoor range in Imperial.

There is apparently a fingerprinting component to be done, as well.

After that, I can apply for a CCW permit. As I understand it, I will be issued a new driver's license with the CCW endorsement on it.

Weapon

I have a Glock 26 for this purpose.

Conceal Options

Status: I just ordered an Uncle Mike's Inside-the-Pant Kydex open-top holster. We shall see how I like it.

This is where I need to do the most research. Problem #1: I am a slim guy, and there isn't a whole lot of spare room between me and my clothing.

There is a Waist Band Holster that might be an option. It actually fits above the waistline with the gun mounted at your lower back or perhaps at your belly. See the Pyle Mountain guy on Ebay. This one has the advantage of allowing me to have a spare clip with it.

If I want to start wearing cargo pants, I can use a pocket holster. Here is one made of leather.

However, the most likely option will be an IWB (Inside the Waistband) type of holster. Don Hume Leatherworks makes a nice IWB holster that fits the Glock 26. Among IWB holsters, there are strong side and crossdraw. I would think that I would prefer cross draw, but there isn't a lot of that out there.

Check out Gunner's Alley.

Maybe I should see if Bianchi has a website.

The Fobus Paddle Holster looks interesting.

Glock themselves make a polymer holster, but it is OWB.

I also saw a setup which basically a belt with a pouch that you wear inside your pants. The pouch rests in front of your crotch. It has a larger pocket for the weapon and a smaller pocket for a spare magazine. I may have to consider that. It was nearly $50, though.

In the Winter, there may be times in which I will have the option to wear a shoulder holster. I may have to get one eventually and try it out.

Car Transport

They make a safe of sorts that can be bolted to the car (in the passenger compartment) and the gun locked up inside. This is important for when I have no choice but to go into some place that prohibits firearms.
