Workshop

The workshop will be a basic metal building that is used for all of the woodworking and metalworking that we will do. It will also be where we do handloading.

Machines - There needs to be room for several woodworking and metalworking machines. Table saw, wood lathe, drill press, jointer, grinding wheel, mortising tool, router/shaper, air compressor, metal lathe, milling machine, bead blaster, benchtop sander, belt grinder, scroll saw, dust collector, welder.

There should also be a big staging area. Perhaps for building a large piece of furniture. Perhaps for building a boat. Perhaps for working on a car.

This is a lot of stuff. Perhaps it calls for a long building with machines on either side.

In an effort to understand how much space I will need for my shop, I need to identify all of the large tools that will (or might) go into it.

Paint Room

A separate room for painting and applying finishes would be nice. It would be a dust-free area. A vent for the paint booth would be beneficial, but otherwise it should have a lot of big screened windows that can be opened.

An oven for powder coating and blueing would be good, too.

Bathroom

The shop should have a sink for washing up. Ideally, it will also have a toilet.

However, since the shop won't be heated most of the time, it must be possible to winterize the plumbing. One way to do that would be to have a shut-off and be able to drain the pipes. However, that's a lot of work. And what about the drain pipes? More importantly, I will want to be able to use them in the winter. Another option is to have heating elements for the pipes and the toilet. What toilets exist that do not have a tank?
