Michael's House

Home Theater

This is where I will watch movies. One wall should be cabinetry with a large screen, speakers, and access to media players. The others walls and the ceiling should have sound absorbing materials. Speakers should be mounted in the walls all around. Can lights in the ceiling on a dimmer control. A tiered floor probably makes sense.

In the center of the room, there should be a double recliner or love seat, especially if I can find one made for home theaters that doesn't block the sound from the rear. Behind that should be a row of couches or theater seating. The layout of the seating should be designed so that it does not interfere with the speakers.

Lounge

I don't live in my livingroom, but in my office, and I watch movies in my livingroom. Since I intend to have a home theater, a livingroom is good for only one thing: parties and entertaining guests.

Given that purpose, the lounge should be laid out more like a lounge in a nightclub. Varied seating, little tables, a modest sound system, art, and low lighting (can lights and table lamps). This room really doesn't need any windows, so it could be in a finished basement.
