Hunting Cabin, No Utilities
A low-cost, minimal cabin for use as a place to stay when hunting. Such a cabin would allow me to hunt in the area. It could be built on a small piece of land. It will have no utilities of any kind.
Requirements
- Lock Down - It should lock up securely and leave minimal temptation for vandals. Mainly, this means no exposed glass windows.
- Heat - There needs to be some kind of heating system that is easy to use. This might be a kerosene heater, built in with a flu.
- Kitchen Area - A counter and shelves or cabinets for storage of food and coolers.
- Main/Bunk Area - The main area should be surrounded by bunks. Two double bunks on either side of the room could sleep four. It should also have room for portable chairs.
- Bathroom - An enclosed and vented room to place a portable toilet.
Construction
Regular stud walls with insulation. Exterior walls can be plywood siding. Interior walls can be paneling. Peaked metal roof. No windows. Two doors, one in front, one in back.
Heat
I need to investigate heating options. A kerosene heater seems like an inexpensive and simple option. However, what about fumes and oxygen depletion? No matter what I do, there should be an exhaust vent.
Another option may be propane. I could use portable propane tanks like the ones my family used to use for the stove. I wonder how that works.
